Dr. Saturu Ned

Saturu Ned then known as James Mott joined the Black Panther Party in May of 1968 in Sacramento California while attending Sacramento City College.  Saturu joined the Black Panther Party to usher in a new era of community self-reliance thru the implementation of 63 model programs (Survival Programs) based on the 10 point platform and program of the Black Panther Party developed a foundation of stability by meeting the basic needs of the community through the participation of the residents of the community that would eventually lead to economic stability and freedom within their own neighborhoods. The Breakfast and Lunch for school children, the W.I.C. program (women and infant children) the First Senior Housing in America, Free Health Clinics and mass grocery giveaways before there were food bank, the Sickle Cell Anemia Foundation are some of the 63 documented  community survival programs.

    Saturu was a member of the Black Panther Party singing group called the “Lumpen”. A book was written by Professor Ricky Vincent called “Party Music” the untold story of the Lumpen and their influence on the Black Power Movement. Saturu was a teacher at the award winning  Oakland Community School and Learning Center that was started and run by Black Panther Party Members. The School won an award in 1974 for “educational excellence” from the California State Legislature in Sacramento California. Saturu has appeared on numerous television and video productions,  radio. print and online publications.

   Saturu is also the Founder and C.E.O of BlackPantherPower.com where you can order Apparel and  contribute tax deductible donations to support our modern day survival programs. He continues to work in the interest of the community as an Educator, Innovator , and a Survival Program Architect. The goal is to reestablish the connection of the proven process and application of creating self-sufficiency, self-determination and economic freedom for our families, friends and our communities.
